How to treat acne in adolescence

Who does not dream of skin free of blackheads and pimples, especially in adolescence. A phase of life in which skin sensitivity is so acute. Pimples tend to be uncomfortable and are capable of causing stress, insecurity and anxiety. However, there are ways to help prevent pimples and alleviate its effects. Below we give further information to understand why adolescent pimples appear and see how to deal with it.

The origin

In general, pimples appear during adolescence, a period in which the body goes through a series of hormonal variations and the sebaceous glands produce a greater amount of sebum. Sebum is a fat that protects and lubricates the skin when the pores are clogged by proteins produced by the body itself or by skin debris.

To combat pimples, the body automatically activates the natural defence system, and this action causes an inflammatory reaction that can develop into pimples. Pimples usually appear between the ages of 12 and 18, in the so-called “T zone” of the face – jaw, nose and forehead, and can also have a hereditary component.

How to prevent

It is essential to maintain a skin cleansing and moisturising routine, with specific products that remove impurities, have an exfoliating action and help protect against germs while moisturising without clogging pores.

For pimple prevention, it is also important to invest in a healthy and balanced diet, with fewer high-glycemic carbohydrates, such as sugar, flour, dairy and chocolate. Also, if possible, reduce the level of stress.

However, in some cases there is no way to prevent the appearance of lesions, mainly when there is a family history or when the adolescent's skin is oilier. In that case, it is best to start treatment as quickly as possible, to increase the chance of diagnosing and reducing the problem more quickly.

The treatment

Prescriptions for teenage pimple treatment may include medications, sunscreens, oil control and other pimple-specific products, healthy eating, and adopting a more relaxed lifestyle.

How to avoid skin marks or scars

Avoid squeezing blackheads and pimples as much as possible, to avoid acne marks and scars. Even after the prevention and treatment phases, lesions continue to appear, try to control the inflammation of the pimples to contain the formation of marks. How to achieve that? Avoid extreme temperatures and direct sunlight on the face, do not touch the pimples and cleanse the skin with a specialised soap.
